For Breast Cancer Survivors A warning sleeve to help prevent Lymphedema. If you have had lymph nodes removed during surgery for breast cancer and/or, you have had radiation, your affected arm is at risk for Lymphedema. Protect yourself when under the affects of anesthesia....wear ProtectArm.
In 1995, having attended a lecture on how to prevent lymphedema, I found myself faced with day surgery. I realized that in the operating and recovery rooms, I could not speak for myself to warn the medical staff not to use my affected arm for blood pressure, to draw blood, or start an I.V.. If I am ever hospitalized during my lifetime, I will always need a way to alert my caregivers. So...ProtectArm was born! 30 Ways To Prevent Lymphedema Lymphedema is the accumulation of lymph fluid that causes swelling in the tissues of a limb. 15%-30% of those who have had radiation and/or surgical removal of lymph nodes following breast cancer may develop lymphedema. It is a chronic condition and can occur months or many years after breast surgery, so you need to do everything you can to protect your affected arm. You must see your Doctor immediately if you notice any sign of swelling of the hand or arm, or have fever, pain or red streaks in the affected arm. You are the only one who can take care of yourself, so please read, understand and follow these guidelines.
